2017 plans

Hey folks, we’re planning on doing a bunch of recordings before year’s end, although not sure when they’ll come out and in what format.

We don’t have plans to book any gigs at the moment due to family commitments and other work but we’re planning to aim to do some stuff hopefully in 2018, or at earliest late 2017. We’re expecting to make the recordings our priority though.

Come back here for updates.

Roster move!

“Die Hard Liam” McKiernan will be moving to bass/vocals. Liam has been Hutch’s drummer since 2013 and played every show we’ve done since.

John “Rumbles” is back as drummer. Johnny retired from playing live with Hutch in 2010, but he’s continued to record in the studio with us here and there since. (When John has come back, Liam has picked up guitar and vocal duties and moved aside).

No shows are planned at the moment, but in the not-so-far future we may book one. Some recordings with the new lineup are likely in the next year.

So long, Viv

…And thanks for all the lentils!

So, Mike “Viv” Verdino (bass/vocals) has moved to Florida. We plan to jam with him, and hopefully record some Hutch stuff next time he’s in the New York area, but for now it’s see you later.

Viv has played more gigs with For the Hutch than any other bass player (six different people, including me, have played bass as a member of the band). His first was at an outdoor concert in Battery Park City in 2010. He also played bass on the entire “Camouflage Halo” EP and appears as drummer on “Beer = Dude (1997 demo).”

The latter, by the way, was recorded by Viv and my high school band The Cake Eaters. I knew the dude since kindergarten and we jammed for years in high school and through college. It was pretty cool reuniting in Hutch and even jamming on some songs like “Beer = Dude” again.

I hate Viv. He’s mainly a guitar player and pianist, but he picked up bass because we needed a guy and he turned out to be really good at that, too: Damn him! Did I mention he’s a really good songwriter too? I’ll link his stuff if I remember to ask him. Anyway, huzzah to Viv.

It’s here

Subdude EP on Soundcloud

Updated: The limited edition EP is no longer available on Soundcloud, but the tunes contained within it will be made available as part of the “Camouflage Halo” EP available on streaming March 15.

_____

For the Hutch is back with four new tracks sure to make your socks go up and down!

For a limited time, it’s the “Subdude” EP on Soundcloud:

4-song studio session done

We just finished up four songs in the studio with Stevie Z producing. Final mixes underway and expecting to have it available on the webs soon. More songs on the way and aiming to do some gigs in the fall. Peace.

Beer=Dude=romance

Mark, Jules and Mike.

Mark, Jules and Mike.

So, I got married Nov. 1. That was a pretty big deal but one little cool footnote was that For The Hutch took the stage and played three songs. One was “Beer = Dude” during which my beautiful bride Jules joined us for back up vocals. Here’s a pic.

The lineup, by the way, was me on vocals, Joe and Liam on guitar, Mike on bass and Johnny Rumbles on drums coming out of his live performance retirement for the occasion. I’d be lying if I didn’t mention John stayed on with the wedding band to play drums on “Blurred Lines” after Hutch was finished. True story.

Tuck’d Away show canceled

Just a note that we’ve canceled our show at Tuck’d Away Nov. 22.

We’re rescheduling for early next year. We’ll be taking off the remainder of 2014 from live shows to finish recording new stuff so when we re-emerge expect some new additions to the set.

Return to Desmond’s

Also, on Sept. 5, we returned to Desmond’s Tavern in New York City for some Hutch action. We debuted “Going to Cleveland,” one of the songs off our long-neglected EP we’re recording at The Loft in Bronxville.
